Porsche 993 4S Coupè
Unveiled in 1995 as part of the final generation of air-cooled 911s, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (Type 993) represents one of the purest and most beautifully resolved interpretations of the classic 911 form. Combining the wide, muscular bodywork of the 911 Turbo with the all-wheel drive system and naturally aspirated engine of the Carrera 4, the 4S offered a unique balance of performance, security, and aesthetic appeal. It embodied Porsche’s engineering maturity, delivering near‑Turbo looks and handling finesse without the abrupt turbocharged temperament, making it one of the most sought‑after 993 derivatives ever produced.
Beneath its sculpted rear arches lay the 3,600‑cc M64/21 flat‑six engine, producing 285 horsepower. Paired with a six‑speed manual gearbox and viscous-coupled all‑wheel drive, the Carrera 4S delivered seamless traction and fluid balance in all conditions. Its performance figures were impressive even by modern standards: 0–100 km/h in around 5.3 seconds and a top speed approaching 270 km/h. The model shared the 911 Turbo’s larger brakes and suspension geometry, endowing it with remarkable stopping power and chassis composure.
Inside, the 4S was as luxuriously appointed as it was purposeful. Full leather interiors were standard, as were deeply bolstered seats, refined cabin insulation, and Porsche’s signature minimalism in layout. The wide Turbo silhouette, accentuated by the integrated red light strip stretching across the tail, imbued the car with presence and elegance, while omitting the large rear wing gave it an understated sophistication unique to this variant.
